Manchin said he was still working to keep rural post offices open. The post office currently plans to close 150 in West Virginia, and the postal sorting center in Bluefield is slated for closure after May 15.
“We’ve gotta get a sound energy policy,” Manchin said. “We gotta get our financial house in order. We have a correction that needs to go on in this country that gets us back to basics, and that’s basically we build things, we manufacture things, we educate the workforce that’s needed to do these jobs.”
“We have to empower workers to have the safest working conditions. Workplace safety should be foremost,” Manchin said. “If you can’t do it safely, don’t do it. If you can’t mine safely, don’t do it. If you can’t manufacture something safely, don’t do it.”
