Statement on West Virginia Primary Election Results

Charleston, W.V. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) issued the following statement after today’s primary election results.

“I want to congratulate all of the Democratic candidates on their victories tonight. We have an excellent group of West Virginia Democrats who are committed to bringing commonsense solutions to Washington and around the Mountain State. There is no stronger defender of the people of Southern West Virginia than Congressman Nick Rahall. He is a strong voice in Washington whose seniority has helped him deliver time and again for the people of West Virginia’s Third Congressional District. He is a great ally of the Mountain State and we need to send him back to Washington. Natalie Tennant is a proven statewide leader whose passion and dedication to public service will resonate well in Washington. Nick Casey is a problem-solver who will work to refocus our nation’s priorities on building our infrastructure needs, developing a clear energy policy, and providing good paying jobs to Americans. Glen Gainer has a track record of fiscal responsibility whose good stewardship of the taxpayer’s money has won praise from both sides of the aisle.

“I congratulate all candidates who had the courage to put their names on the ballot and stand up for what they believe in. To those candidates who won, enjoy tonight’s victory, but know the fight continues through to Election Day.”
